One-liner: DeepCell is a document format plus a toolchain: one .deepcell file carries your spreadsheet, your report, your slides and a reasoning cheat sheet as connected surfaces, so when you change a number the dependent cells recalculate and the prose and slides that depend on it are flagged for review — instead of leaving three copies that drift apart.

Everything below was checked against the official homepage, pricing page and agent guide (fetched 2026-10-26), the Product Hunt launch (October 22, 2026) and independent coverage. This is an official-terms entry: I did not run the app, so there is no score and no hands-on claim.

Verified facts (official site + pricing + agent guide + third-party, 2026-10-26)

Attribute Value Source
Format One .deepcell file holds four surfaces: Spreadsheet (numbers/calculations), Document/Report (findings), Deck (slides), Cheat sheet (how you reached conclusions) deepcell.net home
Linked updates Recalculation updates dependent cells automatically; linked claims, prose and slides are “flagged for explicit reassessment” rather than silently rewritten deepcell.net home + ChatGate write-up
Agent access Web app + CLI + remote MCP server; plugin for shell environments (Claude Code, Cowork, OpenWork, CI), MCP server for MCP-only hosts (claude.ai, ChatGPT, Manus), read-only for fetch-only contexts deepcell.net/product/for-agent
CLI scope Inspection, ingestion, generation, revision, verification, delivery; imports workbooks without flattening formulas, exports editable Office files; sign-in, upgrades, Office/PDF exports and clone/pull/push/commit/merge history live in the CLI (not the MCP server) deepcell.net/product/for-agent + ChatGate
Plugin Published per Agent Plugins Specification v1.0.0; repo deepcell-ai/deepcell-plugins, MIT, last push 2026-10-24 GitHub API, fetched 2026-10-26
Office export Export to Excel, Word or PowerPoint “anytime” Product Hunt description
Pricing Free for individuals ($0, no account needed to start; free account keeps files beyond 30 days); Teams (3–50) “coming soon”; Enterprise custom (SSO, private cloud/on-premises, security review, priority support) deepcell.net/pricing, fetched 2026-10-26
Launch Product Hunt daily #1 on October 22, 2026 with 333 votes (27 more than runner-up Claude Duet); #4 on the Oct 19–25 weekly leaderboard NODUS Insights + PH weekly leaderboard
Use cases named Modeling, sales review, budget forecast, monthly report — tasks that need narration, calculation and presentation at once Product Hunt + official copy

Getting it running

DeepCell is reachable three ways, and the vendor’s agent guide routes by environment: hosts that can run shell commands install the plugin (which carries the working guidance as skills and sets up the CLI itself), MCP-only hosts (claude.ai, ChatGPT, Manus) connect to the remote MCP server, and fetch-only contexts stay read-only until upgraded. The CLI is the larger surface — it handles sign-in, upgrades, Office/PDF exports and the full clone/pull/push/commit/merge history. For a person, the web app is the entry point: start from a prompt or an uploaded workbook, and the same file reads as a grid, as prose, and as slides. No account is needed to start; anonymous sessions can create projects and share view-only links for days, while signing in adds permanent storage and editable shares.

What it costs

Read from deepcell.net/pricing on 2026-10-26:

  • Free — $0. No account needed to start; a free account keeps your files beyond 30 days. Plain-text .deepcell files you can keep and version yourself, audit and recalculation, file sharing without an account, and CLI + MCP integration are all included.
  • Teams — coming soon. For teams and studios of 3–50: everything in Free plus shared projects, team permissions and collaboration history. Waitlist sign-up, no price listed yet.
  • Enterprise — custom. Everything in Teams plus SSO and advanced access controls, private cloud or on-premises deployment, security review and priority support. Contact sales.

Because the paid tier is unannounced, the only hard number today is $0 to start; the meaningful costs are time (learning the .deepcell model) and, for teams, waiting for the Teams plan.

How it differs from alternatives

  • Office files + AI copilots (Copilot/Claude in Word, Excel, PowerPoint): a copilot drafts inside three separate files that still drift apart. DeepCell collapses the deliverables into one connected file where recalculation is automatic and narrative claims wait for human re-approval — the “no direct text-editor edits” rule is deliberate: typed operations revise values, structure, scenarios or reasoning through validated paths, with lint checks and query-back reads.
  • AI presentation tools (Gamma, ngram-style explainer builders) start from a doc and generate slides. DeepCell starts from the whole deadline kit — spreadsheet, report, deck, cheat sheet — and keeps them linked, which matters when the number on a slide must match the memo and the model.
  • Notion/Coda-style docs with tables: flexible, but tables and prose are separate objects; DeepCell’s claim is that charts bind to ranges and decks reproduce bound pages, so exports stay traceable.
  • Spreadsheet-native agents (spira-maxima, etc.) are content-generation platforms; DeepCell’s differentiator is the agent plug-in surface (CLI + MCP + skills) that lets a coding agent build the whole kit inside its own loop.

Where to stay honest

  • Very young product: launched October 22, 2026; Teams pricing and many after-launch details are “coming soon” rather than published.
  • By-design constraints: you cannot edit the file like a text editor (that would skip validation and history); users used to free-form editing may find the typed-operation model slower at first.
  • Brand collision: “DeepCell” also names the Stanford-founded cell-analysis company at deepcell.com. This page covers the office-work product at deepcell.net; searches for the name will hit both.
  • No hands-on here: the linked-update behavior (recalc automatic, prose flagged not rewritten) is the maker’s model as described on the site and in the agent guide, not a result I produced.
  • No affiliate or promotion relationship: independent directory entry, numbers dated 2026-10-26.

Who it’s for

  • Founders building forecasts and decision memos, finance owners refreshing budgets, sales operations assembling quarterly reviews, consultants writing memos where numbers and narrative must agree
  • Teams that already run coding agents and want the office deliverable inside the agent loop (plugin + CLI + MCP)
  • Not for: people who only need prose or only a grid (a simpler editor is faster), or orgs that need SSO/on-prem today (that is the Enterprise tier, contact sales).
