One-liner: Hermes Studio (formerly “Hermes Web UI”) is a third-party desktop app, mobile companion, and self-hosted web console for running Hermes Agent alongside Claude Code, Codex, Pi, and Ekko from one workspace. It has real momentum — and a licensing label that doesn’t match how it’s often described online.

The features are real
Against its own README and site, the function list checks out: multi-agent runtime coordination, visual workflow canvas, group chats, voice (STT/TTS adapters), cron jobs and Kanban, LAN/mobile connectivity, npm/Docker desktop deployment. It tracks fast — a release shipped the day before we checked. For personal use, the BSL grant explicitly covers it, and there’s no pricing: everything is free to download.
Where the “open source” claim breaks
Chinese-language roundup posts have described Hermes Studio as “open source, you can fork and modify it freely.” That’s the exact pattern of a source-available ≠ open-source misread:
- Claim: “GitHub 开源,可魔改” → Verified: LICENSE is Business Source License 1.1. You may read and modify the code, but using it commercially — selling, hosting as SaaS, embedding in a product — requires a paid license from the author.
- Claim: links to “Hermes Agent official documentation” → Verified: those links lead to hermes-studio.ai’s own docs, not the official Hermes Agent documentation. Attribution confusion between the community console and the upstream project.
The upstream Hermes Agent by Nous Research ships its own official desktop app, which covers chat, streaming tool output, and profiles — Studio’s incremental pitch is the visual workflow canvas, cost dashboards, and multi-channel connectivity.
Who should actually use it
Hobbyists running Hermes Agent at home who want a console with workflows and mobile access: the non-commercial grant covers you, full stop. Teams or consultants planning to embed or resell it: budget for a commercial license first, and don’t rely on blog posts that call it MIT-style open source.
